Danny & Clyde’s Food Store, Inc. was founded in 1973 by two boyhood friends, Ernest “Big Dan” Danjean Perrin “Clyde”Rittiner. The company was started with one location in Gretna, Louisiana. In 1976, an innovative and strategic move was made as the company opened their first store with a deli. The concept was an immediate success, establishing Danny Clyde’s as the home of the best Overstuffed Po-Boy in the New Orleans area. This innovation pre-dated the current movement within the industry to incorporate food service into the convenience offer.
By 1984, 10 stores, all with delis, were being operated throughout the New Orleans metro area. A number of stores have been sold over the years and replaced with larger locations. In recent years, the Company has opened several profitable locations in the Metairie, Slidell, Houma, and Thibodaux areas giving the company a presence throughout southern Louisiana.
Both of the original founders are now deceased. However, Chris Rittiner, son of Clyde Rittiner, is now actively running the company as President. Through his leadership, the tradition of Convenience, Quality, and the Overstuffed Po-Boy continues.
